Montane signs up to take the Dragon’s Back Race® to new heights
We are delighted to welcome Montane as the new presenting sponsor of the Dragon’s Back Race® for its next three editions.
The Dragon’s Back Race® and Covid-19
“Everyone at Ourea Events is working very hard to ensure that, if restrictions allow, we will be ready to deliver our events later this year. Any other approach simply guarantees failure. If we sat on our hands now waiting until the government announced that events could proceed again, then there would be no chance of us being ready when restrictions are relaxed, because events like the Dragon's Back Race® are complex logistical challenges that take about 12-months to organise.”
The journey to 2021 begins
The Dragon’s Back Race® would like to extend a warm and fiery welcome to all those who have secured a place for the 2021 event. Entries sold out in 24 hours so congratulations are in order for all the lucky participants on the entry list. Organisers are happy to see several familiar names, with many 2019 event team members choosing to return and use the event credit they earned while volunteering to participate in the 2021 event.
2021 race sells out within 24 hours!
On Tuesday September 1st 2020, entries for the sixth edition of the Dragon’s Back Race®, to take place in September 2021, opened and sold out on the same day. It was clear that demand was high for entries into the world’s toughest mountain race following on from the recent exciting announcements about the addition of a sixth day and a grand finish inside the walls of Cardiff castle, in the capital of Wales.
Covid-19 September 2020 update
Dear runners,
Like us we are sure that you are all acutely aware of the COVID-19 pandemic and how it may influence events like the 2021 edition of the Dragon’s Back Race®. At this stage (still twelve months before the 2021 edition) we’d like to reassure you that managing the COVID-19 risk to everyone involved in the event is top of our priority list.
Six reasons why six days are better than five
So often previous participants say that the camaraderie they share with their fellow Dragon slayers is what makes the week so special and memorable. Running with others, sharing the highs and the lows, makes the miles flew by and this support is the key to a successful event completion for many. Imagine one more day to enjoy more Welsh running with some awesome new friends? Who could say no to that!
Exciting new era for the Dragon’s Back Race with sixth day and Cardiff Castle finish
World’s toughest mountain race gets tougher… The 2021 edition of the legendary Dragon’s Back Race® will mark a step change in the evolution of the event as organisers add a sixth day to the race, which will see the race finish at the iconic Cardiff Castle.
In depth: 2021 event format changes
There are no substantive changes to the established route on days 1-4. The new day five begins as before, but rather than heading west over the Black Mountain, the new route turns east and completes an extended traverse of the Brecon Beacons. This means that the new day five is a monstrous 70km, which truly embraces the ethos of the event by continuing the journey along the mountainous spine of Wales’ most southerly mountains.
