Dragon's Back Race® to be held annually from September 2021
The Dragon’s Back Race® and the Cape Wrath Ultra® will take place annually from 2021. Previously both events occurred biennially in May, with the Dragon’s Back Race® in 2017 and 2019, and the Cape Wrath Ultra® in 2016 and 2018.
Route variations over the years
The course is broadly the same as in 2017 with a few key changes which are often due to the increased number of participants and the responsibility we have to minimise our impact on the flora and fauna.

Dragon's Back Race® 2019 - Race Director's Report
The 2019 Berghaus Dragon’s Back Race® is over and what an incredible week it was for all involved. The 5th edition of this legendary race further cemented it's reputation as a world-class event in the mountain running and outdoor community. Earning a coveted Dragon trophy represents the culmination of months of hard training and preparation that only the most determined and experienced mountain and ultra runners can aspire to.
Day 5: Galen Reynolds and Lisa Watson win the 2019 Dragon's Back Race
Canadian Galen Reynolds and Brit Lisa Watson ran to convincing wins in the 2019 Dragon’s Back Race. Galen’s time of 37:48:06 is a race record, beating Marcus Scotney’s 2017 win by almost 10 minutes.
Lisa was also the fastest female on the final day of the gruelling 315km multi-stage race, including 15,500m vertical gain, from the north to the south of Wales.
