The Dragon’s Back Race® passes through the full range of Wales’ outstanding upland landscapes, including all of the highest mountain ranges in the country. These are recognised as areas of national and international importance for their upland wildlife habitats, flora and fauna.

We are excited to be working towards a more sustainable future by changing and adapting how we organise and deliver our events, but we are now asking you to do your part by accepting and embracing these changes. Below we share with you some key actions that you can undertake to help support our efforts on sustainability when participating in the Montane Dragon’s Back Race®.

You will need to look after yourself to finish well (at the front or the back of the pack), so we’re glad you’ve come here to read this. We know from previous editions of the race that a large proportion of the race field will seek help from the medical team at some point during the race.

The route is not marked on the ground in any way and participants must use the event map and/or their GPS device to follow the route when required. The route will be shown by two different coloured lines on the map, indicating whether the route is mandatory or recommended.

If you intend to treat foot problems as they arise at the Dragon’s Back Race® you have already chosen the wrong strategy! After all, feet are the most important part of your kit.

Many participants find it valuable to explore the route before the event to understand the nature of the challenge, to know what to expect and to practise running on rough, mountainous terrain. It would also be a good opportunity to test kit / navigation techniques as a dress rehearsal before the main event!
