Berghaus has announced that it will sponsor the Dragon’s Back Race™ for the next two events. Following the success of the races in 2012 and 2015, the UK’s leading outdoor performance brand is signing up to be the headline sponsor for 2017 and 2019. The 2017 Berghaus Dragon’s Back Race will be held from 22nd – 26th May, with competitors tackling 300km and 16,000m of ascent in wild mountainous terrain down the spine of Wales.

Entries for the 2017 Berghaus Dragon’s Back Race™ opened to great anticipation yesterday, Monday 9th May. In the first 60 minutes, 125 entries were sold; a rate of over two per minute. The entry total stood at 221 competitors after the first 24 hours of entries opening.

The next Berghaus Dragon's Back Race™ in 2017 may seem like a long way off, but it will come round quickly, and at this stage we want to highlight some key information:

Date - The Berghaus Dragon’s Back Race™ is an extraordinary adventure and the next race will be held in 2017. The provisional dates are: Monday 22nd – Friday 26th May 2017. These dates have been chosen so that our sister event, the Cape Wrath Ultra™, will happen on alternative years with each event always taking place in the last full week of May.

First of all, the medical team would like to offer hearty congratulations to all competitors whether or not they finished the whole course. You will be sent psychiatric referrals later! Actually we were so inspired that we have all thought of entering the next Berghaus Dragon’s Back Race™ as runners.

The 3rd Berghaus Dragon’s Back Race™ is over and it is clear from the deluge of emails and social media chatter that the event has, once again, had a profound impact on the competitors and event team alike. The comment and commentary is universally superb and the event has confirmed its reputation as a world-class ultra running expedition experience.

The 2015 Berghaus Dragon's Back Race was incredibly privileged to have the team from Slackjaw Film on board for the whole week. With the able assistance of ex-Dragon's Back champion Helene Whitaker providing authentic narrative, this team were able to shoot and edit in almost real-time during the race, keeping supporters from all over the world right up to date.

The Berghaus Dragon’s Back Race wrapped up this evening with the presentation ceremony at the Llandeilo Rugby Club.Race Director Shane Ohly spoke about the spirit of the event. “The competitors set the tone for the race,” he said, “with their attitude and approach and it’s a pleasure to be with so many friendly, happy people who are simply motivated to run in the hills. I know there are friendships made and tears shed (by racers, organisers and marshals) and that everyone will have memories to last a lifetime from the past week.
