Entries are now OPEN for the 2023 Montane Dragon’s Back Race® which will take place from Monday 4th-Saturday 9th September 2023.

Enjoy six days of epic running as you encounter lofty ridges, remote, unspoiled landscapes, steep climbs and exhilarating descents on your journey from Conwy Castle to Cardiff Castle. Be the first to experience the new Hatchling course

NEW for the 2023 event, you have the option to complete the shorter ‘Hatchling’ course and earn a special memento. Sign up for the full race then have the flexibility to do the full race route, the ‘Hatchling’ course, or swap to the ‘Hatchling’ course mid-way through the week.

I’m signed up – how do I begin to prepare?

  • Take a look at our first-timer’s guide for all the advice you need to prepare for this awesome challenge.

  • Join our participant group on Facebook to connect with other like-minded participants.

  • Recce the route. One of the best ways of preparing for the race is to gain experience on the route itself. Our Event Partners at RAW Adventures offer some excellent recce events to help you build confidence.

Follow the 2022 Event

Don’t forget to follow the 2022 event, taking place from 5th-10th September 2022.

Hopefully our awesome 2022 participants will inspire you to follow in their footsteps by rising to the challenge in 2023. Information about how to track our Dragons as they make their way down the mountainous spine of Wales will be released a few days before the event. Plus, keep an eye out for the daily blogs and films that will be posted to Facebook and Instagram.
