Welcome to the Dragon’s Back Race™ website

The original Dragon’s Back Race™ happened just once in September 1992… Ever since, the race has been whispered about with a mix of awe and trepidation and its growing reputation has reached legendary status with fell, mountain and ultra runners the World over.

Many consider the Dragon’s Back Race™ to be the toughest mountain running event ever organised. Certainly, this is not a challenge for the faint hearted.

September 2012 is the 20th anniversary of the original race and once again the Dragon will be breathing fire on the mountains of Wales!

Closely following the original route, the race will start at Conwy Castle in the north and trace the mountainous spine of Wales southwards, over 5 days with approximately 200 miles and 45,000 feet of ascent, to finish at Carreg Cennen Castle.

Competitors wishing to take on this incredible challenge will be fully supported throughout with tented accommodation, breakfast and evening meals provided. There will also be hot drinks, cakes and refreshments available as each day is completed. Competitors will be able to access their Resupply Bag at one support point each day, whilst their Overnight Bag will be transported to the campsite.

Spectacular mountain scenery and a journey of discover will greet competitors each day as they traverse the mountains of Wales. On completion of this epic five-day race, all the competitors and support team will share a celebratory feast at Carreg Cennen Castle before return transport takes everyone back to Conwy in North Wales.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Shane Ohly

Race Director
