Day 5 - Route information & map

Planner’s Optimum Route: 64km with 2,092m of ascent

Gellifechan Campsite > Hill > Hill > Track / Road Junction > Usk Reservoir Dam > Allt Fach  > Fan Brycheiniog > Carreg Yr Ogof > Garreg Lwyd Summit > Carn Pen-y-clogau > Tair Carn Isaf > Carreg Cennen Castle

After making the first day harder, we decided to make the last day easier and the massive dogleg south to Gribarth that the 1992 route took has been reduced significantly. However, after some complex access negotiations, we have agreed an amazing route north of Llandovery that follows a fantastic ridge through agricultural land that has no public right of way. In 1992, the competitors simply ran down the road to Llandovery… so perhaps it’s not that much easier after all! The inspiring terrain of the western Brecon Beacons that is known as the Black Mountain is where the closing stages of the race will be played out. It is a tough and tiring place to be racing after five days in the hills but with the Carreg Cennen Castle slowly coming into view there is always something to aim for.

Spectators are welcome at the finish at Carreg Cennen Castle and the castle is open as usual on Friday 7th September. We expect the winner to arrive about 1400 and the majority of the competitors to finish between 1630 and 1930. You are most welcome to visit and cheer-in the finishers.

Please note that the overnight campsite at Carreg Cennen Castle is on private property and no public access is allowed.
