Day 1 - Route information & map

Planner’s Optimum Route: 52km with 4,468m of ascent

Conwy Castle > Sychnant Pass > Tal y Fan > Drum > Foel Fras > Carnedd Gwenllian > Foel Grach > Yr Elen > Carnedd Llewelyn > Carnedd Dafydd > Pen yr Ole Wen > Ogwen Valley > Tryfan > Glyder Fach > Glyder Fawr > Y Garn > Elidir Fawr > Crib Goch > Garnedd Ugain >Snowdon > Bwlch Cwm Lian Col > Llyndy Isaf Farm

Just like the original 1992 race the route on the first day takes in the Carneddau, Glyders and Snowdon areas having started at Conwy Castle. However, the 1992 route only took in seven of the fifteen Welsh 3,000ft mountains and this year the competitors will be tackling all of them! Including the airy traverse between Crib Goch and Garnedd Ugain. We felt that, seeing as the competitors would be going so close to many of the mountains, it would have been a shame not to visit all these classic tops.

Many runners, walkers and outdoor enthusiasts will be familiar with this terrain and hopefully will have some impression of just how hard the first day of the Dragon’s Back Race will be.

Please note that the overnight campsite at Llyndy Isaf Farm is on private property and no public access is allowed.
