How to follow the 2021 Montane Dragon’s Back Race®

Share the adventure and enjoy all the action from the 2021 Montane Dragon’s Back Race®.

Here is how you can follow this awesome journey from Conwy Castle to Cardiff Castle, along the mountainous spine of Wales.

Live GPS Tracking

All participants will carry a GPS tracker which is mainly for race control to keep a safe eye on our participants, however, anyone following the event can also ‘dot watch’ and follow each participant in real time as they journey south along the route.

Live from race start at 07:00 BST on Monday 6th September 2021!

Look out for the following on the GPS Tracking page:

  • Male participants = blue dots

  • Female participants = red dots

  • Non-competitive participants = yellow dots (see results section below for more info on this)

  • Event team = green dots

  • Bars with line across = No signal

  • Bed = Not moving

Dragon Mail™

From the live GPS tracking page, friends and family can also use the Dragon Mail™ service to send a short message to individual participants - this is possible every day during the event.

How to send Dragon Mail™?

Look for the envelope icon on the live GPS tracking page
(top left of the screen on a desktop | top of screen on mobile device)

The course through the Welsh mountains is remote so participants should not expect regular phone service. These Dragon Mail™ messages can be collected by participants each evening at the info point in the communal marquee at the overnight camps. Participants will need their event wristband (collected at registration) to collect their messages.

Please note that all messages will be displayed publicly on the GPS Tracking page.

Service available from Race Start at 07:00 BST on Monday 6th September 2021!

How can I see the 2021 results so far?

The 2021 results will be updated here as the event progresses:

Please note the following:

  • T/O in the results means timed-out at a checkpoint or at the course closure time (end of day). The participant will no longer be competitive in the event, so they will not receive a finishers’ trophy. If they were timed-out at a checkpoint then they can choose to continue with the event and either continue with full days or the reduced course. If they were timed-out at the course closure time at the end of the day, then their only option is to do the reduced course.

  • DNF in the results means the participant ‘Did Not Finish’. They have taken the decision to not continue on the course, and this could be for any number of reasons, such as injury, illness or simply exhaustion!

Please be assured that if someone you know is timed-out or drops out of the race then we will look after them and make sure they get off the hill safely. We will also help them to get to the nearest transport hub if they would like to leave the event.

Our race control, mountain safety and medical teams are on hand to deal with every possible scenario.
