Breaking the Dragon’s Back (2021)

Watch the 2021 dragons take on the epic challenge of running from Conwy Castle to Cardiff Castle through the incredible, rugged Welsh landscape.

Presented by Lowri Morgan and produced by Cwmni Da, this film captures the highs and lows of the race, as dragons had to fight not just the mountainous terrain, but also blistering heat in the first couple of days.

It follows the nail-biting battle between Simon Roberts and Russel Bentley at the front of the men’s race, while Katie Mills creates a considerable lead in the women’s race.

Behind every great race, is an even greater event team.

This film goes behind the scenes at the 2019 Berghaus Dragon's Back Race® and tells the story through the eyes of the event team.

Follow the journey to Conwy Castle and onwards through Wales, as the team ventures to mountain peaks to place check points, moves the event campsite through rural Wales, and deals with incidents out on the course.

Through all the highs and lows, it’s the dedication, energy and passion of the event team that really brings the race to life, making it a truly memorable and special adventure for all involved.

“The Berghaus Dragon’s Back Race film is thoroughly enjoyable. I had heard a lot about the race, but hadn’t really appreciated what the competitors put themselves through to complete one of the world’s toughest events and earn their coveted ‘Dragons’.”

- Sir Chris Bonington

The 2017 film focuses on the highs and lows of five participants as they set out to conquer The Dragon. Each of them has a unique and emotional story to tell of their battle against the enormous physical and mental challenges of the race. We also see the wider race unfolding around them and the stunning Welsh landscapes they travel through. Will they all make it?

“Riding the Dragon follows Huw Jack Brassington’s attempt to complete the hardest five day mountain race in the world, The Dragon's Back Race.

We’ll follow his inspirational journey and experience his highs and lows, as he attempts to run 315km down the mountainous spine of Wales. Will he manage to run five ultra marathons in five days having never before attempted one?”

“Follow 84 competitors as they battle fatigue, blisters and their own mental and physical limits. Compelling, intimate, and beautiful, we’re pretty pleased with how it’s turned out. A great portrayal of mountain running."
